I've posted that I have tried other USB ports and other USB devices on my computer and haven't had any trouble other than with my pedal. I REALLY just want to know if I need to buy a new pedal or if this issue can be fixed. Can someone help me, PLEASE?????
Different ports shouldn't make a difference, unless you have a bad port which should show up with other devices. It sounds like you're floundering around a lot and getting yourself unnecessarily panicked. DCB (deep cleansing breath): First, get the instructions/manual/CDRom for the foot pedal, and read it through thoroughly to see if it gives any insights. It may be something as simple as re-running the install program from the CDRom. (And I would definitely recommend a reboot beforehand.) Also, go to the foot pedal mfg website, and see if there's any help, esp. with Vista, there. There may be a forum, troubleshooting/FAQ, or tech support that could help. If they have a tech supp or forum, be specific--here's what I used to do with XP, here's what I do with Vista, here's what works, and here's what doesn't.
If you're doing a lot of transcribing, do you need to unplug the foot pedal? What would happen if you rebooted, installed the foot pedal, rebooted, and then left it in the USB port, except when you actually need to take it out? If it's a matter of needing more ports, you can get port hubs--best to get powered ones.
Finally, one of the loveliest things about ES is the hot keys. Other programs have you using almost every key you have for hot keys, which is more an instant recipe for carpel tunnel, than for transcribing. ES uses single function keys. I'm physically unable to use a foot pedal and have used ES for about a decade with the hot keys, every day, often 3-4 and even 8-10 or more hours a day.
Good luck! KRN
