Lots of background here leading up to my question, probably easiest to jump to the last paragraph or 2 to get the question.
I started off using Sony Digital voice recorders (several with latest being the ICD-SX46) with the Sony Digital Voice Editor software, next moved to the Olympus DS-20 with the DSS Player Pro software that came with the Olympus AS-4000 foot pedal kit.
So I've gotten very used to the hot key functionality on the Sony software and even prefer it to the Sony Foot pedal.
The most common commands used are
ctrl up arrow - previous voice file
ctrl down arrow - next voice file
ctrl right arrow - jump ahead in current voice file
ctrl left arrow - jump back in current voice file
F10 - stop playback
F11 - resume playback
When I switched to the Olympus recorder and software, I was dismayed to note that there is no next or previous voice file functionality either by hot keys or via the foot pedal, so as a consequence, I've been converting the WMA formatted voice file from the DS-20 to MP3 format and then transcribing them using the Sony software (Sony s/w doesn't support WMA or DSS files). This works but is time very intensive for the conversion stage. I've been using Super to do the conversions and it's been crunching though about 1115 messages for about the past 20 hours and still about 350 messages to go.
Talking with some medical transcriptionists I know, I understand why the workflow involves doing one voice file, marking it as completed, then going onto the next voice file, since most voice file are for a single medical session and typically will be transcribed into a single letter or single report per voice file. However in my business of computer consulting, each voicefile is typically under a minute and a single client session could comprise 1 or 2 files or over 100.
So that means I need to be able to jump back and forth between voice files without having to "close them off" so speak.
I was really excited to find Express Scribe since it supports all the different voice file formats I use, DSS, WMA, WAV and MP3. However it seems to have the same kind of workflow setup as the Olympus software (and most transcription software), so the question is, is there any way to get the same functionality of being able to flit back and forth in the list of voice files WITHOUT using the mouse and only using hot keys?
If not, please take this as a suggested feature as this requirement is fairly common with other folks in my industry who carry voice recorders.
Secondarily, how does one control the install location destination for Express Scribe, it defaulted to C:\Program Files\NCH Swift Sound\Scribe, I never install programs under c:\program files as that all goes on the d: drive.
Thanks
