I use Wavepad to record sound through a microphone.

Is there some way to

(1) reduce the static

and

(2) amplify it without amplifying the static?

hi,

This is an ancient post but I have the same problem and this is the only thread in which I found it with search.

When I use my headset to speak via a netspeak program it (seems to) work fine, but when I use it in wavepad or recordpad it always has a loud layer of static and hissing beneath it.

Is this a problem with my headphones/mic (connected set) or is it something I can fix within the program?

Please help me, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

Cheap(er) microphones will always produce a lot of background noise when you are recording with them. You need to purchase a reasonable mid-range mic to improve your sound quality.

You basically get what you pay for buying cheaper hardware....

Tape hiss is a different story, you might try using the Noise Reduction tool in the Tools menu on the tape recording and you should get a reasonable improvement of the quality.

I have a mid range microphone and I record voice overlays to powerpoint. I get a lot of background static even when I use the noise reduction and pop and hiss tabs. Any idea how to control background static when recording voice?
