How I got SoundTap to work on Vista

I tried for days to get Soundtap to work but with no luck. Then I realized that Vista has a User Account Control program running as part of its Security and thought this may be interfering with Soundtap. I shut it off and now Soundtap is working fine.

Go to the Control Panel

Go to the Security Center

Open up Other Security Settings

Click on User Account Control

Do a search for "Turning Off User Account Control"

Select "Turn off User Account Control"

Select "Click to open User Account"

Then turn off your User Account Control

This may be a bit of the long way around to get to User Account Control but it works.

What version of SoundTap did you try to use? We've recently released a newer version which attempts to inform the user of this problem with Vista.

Hi, I'm using V 1.33 - I think this is the latest version.

Also, with the free version of Wavepad 1.2 I could record what was playing on my PC or on the Internet. Now, that I've purchased the newest version of Wavepad (running with Vista) it won't do this. Very frustrating.

And Soundtap will record streaming audio but no matter what I do, I can't get it to record what plays on my PC.

The feature within WavePad which allowed you to do this required hardware/driver support, it's likely this has not been included in Vista for your sound card. Ensure that you have SoundTap running, and then check your Windows audio devices, make sure SoundTap is set as the default device. For specific applications they might ignore this setting, in which case you will need to go through their options and find out how to set which output device to use.
