Can't load files from CD drive

Hi,

I have used Express Scribe for several years and love it. Yesterday I tried to load some files from my CD drive and the program froze up. It wouldn't load.

I checked the files on the CD from My Computer and they looked like normal Express Scribe files. But when I tried to open them from the CD, I also got an error message, something about Codecs.

I haven 't done anything different than usual. Help!!!! Any ideas?

Where did you get the files from? Express Scribe files can be encoded using a variety of audio codecs, it's likely that whoever provided you with the CD is using one that you do not have (and hence you cannot decode the audio). Try playing the files in Windows Media Player and see if it's able to find the codec for you, or ask who sent you the CD what codec they used or to perhaps use a standard one such as MP3 or GSM. I got the files from Dial Dictate. They are the exact same files I have been using for several years. I used the same process to take them off my computer that has the dictation software, and put them on my computer that has Express Scribe. The only way I could get the files off the CD was to copy them onto my desktop and then pull them from the desktop into Express Scribe. The list of files on the CD comes up when I click on that drive in "my computer." I can also play a CD audio from that drive, so I don't think the drive is bad.

Hmmm, are you using an audio or data CD? Are the files on the CD audio tracks (.cda) or audio files (.dct, .mp3, .wav...)? In either case if it's worked before there's no reason why it should stop working unless some Windows update or similar was applied. Try reinstalling Express Scribe and see if that helps, and also see if you're able to play the files on the original computer with Express Dictate. It may simply be that something went wrong with the burn and the files were corrupted.
