WAV audio format

Hi everyone!

A friend send me a file generated with wavepad. It is an 8KHz wav file. I could not open it using matlab... after looking around a found that in the file the audio format is set as 12h instead of 10h the tipical PCM format. The chunk size is also incorrect according to the typical PCM specifications. However I can play the file in media player.

I imagine that this is not an error but do you have any clues for these differences?

Are you able to make a wave file using WavePad yourself and see if you get a similar format? From my understanding we simply use the encoder provided by Windows, so it may be a problem with that.
