dss files and vista

:angry: I am having trouble getting my Express Scribe to load dss files. I have vista and have researched in this forum and have done all the suggestions and am still not getting it to work... Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Can you tell what version you have of Scribe? If you go to Help on the toolbar (where it's just the word, not the icon), and click, at the bottom of the dropdown menu you'll see "About ExpressScribe." That will tell you what version you are working with. The new version 4.14 is now up, and may have solved that problem... although I don't remember any posts about problems with dss, just wma and msv/dvf (Sony).

I am running the 4.14 version. I can't load any .dss files from "docshuttle" by Bytescribe... i was able to run both Express Scribe and docshuttle perfectly on my old computer (XP). Now I can't even find the files from docshuttle to load.

So the problem isn't actually with the Express Scribe software, it's with the docshuttle? Check with Bytescribe and see if docshuttle is Vista compatible. Once you're able to get the .dss files onto your computer then Express Scribe would be able to load them without issues.

I have just upgraded to Vista, downloaded the new Version of Scribe and have the same problem - my dss files won't load properly - they still load on my "old" machine with XP so the problem isn't with the files. I'm not using any other sort of software. Slowly driving me crazy! Any other suggestions - I have tried what was previously suggested and nothing has worked.

The same files load on your XP machine and not your Vista machine? Have you installed www.nch.com.au/components/dss32.exe on the Vista machine?

Yes have loaded dss32.exe and still doesn't work on the Vista machine. wma and wav files play on it but not dss

That is the same problem I am having. wav files will play, but not the dss.

I have a new computer with Vista Home Premium that will not download .dss files. (Actually they show as downloaded but can't be found anywhere on the hard drive).

I tried downloading from an XP machine onto my external pocket hard drive and I run Express Scribe from the pocket drive. If you have a laptop or another desktop with XP, you might try this. I haven't tried to download from the Vista to the pocket drive, but I'll try it this evening.

I'm not sure if this is Vista Home Edition not being compatible wtih .dss?
