ClarisWorks becomes Switch!

Some time ago I downloaded Switch 1.05, but have not yet had cause to use it.

On my iBook I have wp files going back many years, some of them in early versions of ClarisWorks [now AppleWorks]. When I need one of them and if they are v3 or earlier they have to be opened in v4 and re-saved before they will open in AW6 under Tiger.

For this purpose I have a CW4 icon in the Dock and clicking it launches Classic and then CW4. However, tho the icon is still that of CW4 in the Dock it now launches Switch and when I go to the apps folder the CW4 icon has changed to Switch. Under Sys 9 it would have been a resource fork problem and I think re-building the desktop would have resolved it, but doing it under Classic does not do the business as the icons reside in Tiger.

For what it is worth it is the icons for v3 and 4 that have changed - 1, 5 and 6 are Ok and 2 is missing so I don't have the set!

Any ideas?

This same sort of thing happened to me several weeks ago and was caused, inadvertently, when I appended a version number to the application name. I was able to correct the problem by removing the numeric from the app name and then doing a Get Info on the errant application. Under Name & Extension, I replaced the version number with ".app" and that changed the Switch document back into an application.

That fixed it. I wonder what it is with Switch that grabs other apps - it had given Claris Works the extension .0.

Oddly after I did it CW gave up on launching [and would not launch Classic - until after a restart when all was fine.
