QoS VOIP PORTS?

Hello all,

I'm a noob. I'm using IVM and like the product. I have corporate broadband, however sometimes the phone calls are choppy when I make phone calls using VOIP (in instances where I try to make multiple calls at the same time). I do have a dedicated machine running IVM so I'm not too worried about other processes running, I believe it's the bandwidth. What I'm pretty sure is happening is that other internet users (grrrrr :angry: ) are sucking up my upload bandwidth .

I would like to set QoS Quality of Service on my router to a priority level for my VOIP calls. When I first installed the software I remember it saying something like "IVM is going to open a bunch of ports" but I'm not sure which ones it uses to place the VOIP calls.

Does anyone know which ports I should boost the priority on?

You should set it up with the ports you have IVM set to use. Usually, by default port 5060 is used for voip communication, but for example, I have set mine up to use 5063, so it's best to double check.

Also the codec may be the cause of the calls dropping in and out, different codecs use different ammounts of bandwidth. Some of the default ones use about 64kbps per call (thats a lot!).

Some codecs are more compressed and can send pretty much the same quality of voice but only using small amounts of bandwidth like 8 kbps.

Please note IVM supports: G726 (I believe), GSM, A-law, and U-law... and does not support G723 or G729

In the Networking tab of your SIP account's line properties it lists the listening ports (SIP and RTP).
