When I open a file, it seems to load ok, but when I hit the play (F9) button, the button lights up, but nothing happens. I can hit the Stop, Record & Play buttons etc... they all light up indicating that they've been pressed, but it doesn't play. The time line doesn't scroll, there is not movement.
What am I missing?

It worked 2 weeks ago when I first loaded the software.
There is one possible problem that you may be having, which has a very simple solution, albeit requiring a slight bit of training! It relates to the steadiness of your hand in the operation of the mouse. When you set the cursor position by clicking with the mouse in the WavePad window, it is very important that your hand be perfectly steady in order to get a "clean" placement of the cursor. Even a slight sideward motion of the mouse during this clicking operation may produce a "fuzzy" cursor line, which will be all but undetectable, with a close examination of the line. What will result from this unsteady clicking operation is a _selection_ of a very small portion of the waveform; this selected portion may be so small that it does not appear to have the characteristic blue appearance of a normal selected waveform portion.
Normally (i.e., without the anomalous "selection" process described above), pressing F9 when a portion of the waveform is selected will play the selected portion, at the conclusion of which the moving cursor comes to a halt and the sound stops. However, if you have a very small, anomalous "selected" portion and press F9, "playing" this selected portion produces no visible result, since you have moved through it rapidly in an undetectable manner. In other words, when you press F9 under these circumstances, it will appear that nothing happens, even though there has been an undetectable "playing" of this very small unwanted selection.
Although you may be unaware of the fact, you may be consistently (or almost) moving the mouse slightly as you click on the sound waveform. The remedy for this failure of anything to happen when you try to play from the new cursor position is to plant the mouse very positively and click it without the slightest jiggle. This may take some getting used to if you have developed the bad habit of moving the mouse (even very slightly) when it should be held rock-steady. If this is a problem, concentrating upon that click-without-jiggle motion until you have mastered this operation, which in most applications may not be causing you any problem!
Try this and see if it is indeed responsible for your current problem with pressing the F9 "play" key.
