calling other computers

Would it be posible if google talk would work together by using express talk? Like dialing a friends computers ip number then they will recive the phone call, So how do I do that?

Google Talk uses XMPP protocol, (Jabber, mostly) not SIP- so Express Talk and Google Talk won't be able to call each other. the only SIP client that has even limited (text only) XMPP compatibility is Gizmo Project, and that only the Instant Messaging.

But if you have Express Talk on both ends, here's how-

From the Express Talk Help:

Using IP Address Dialling

IP address dialling is where you can call another party using their IP address. The advantage to this is that neither yourself nor the person you are calling are required to sign up with a SIP provider, nor do you need to use the Axon PBX software. The disadvantage is that you need to know the IP address of the other party, and it may cause frustration dialling externally if the other end is using a dynamic external IP address. Additionally, you won't be able to call people using proper SIP or Axon numbers using an IP dialling-configured line.

To setup Express Talk for IP dialling, nominate a line to use and then configure its setting as follows:

Full 'Friendly' Display Name: anything

SIP number: anything (not blank)

Server: leave blank

Password: leave blank

To use IP dialling to call someone else, first check to ensure that the other party has also configured a line as explained above. To call them, use the format [username]@[iP address] where [username] is whatever they have used as their "SIP Number", and [iP address] is their internal or external IP address (if they are on the same network as you, you can use their internal address). Examples of IP dialled numbers are 'joe@69.56.23.57' and 'bill@192.168.0.201'.

Oh, well. I had a pal ask that a bit back, now i can answer him.

I suspect that PC-PC dialing can be used with dynamic IP's if you used something like a dyndns free account for each dynamic IP and used [username]@[accountname] rather than [username]@[iP address].

I may try that to see if it helps diagnose my can-be-called but can't-call-out problem. Hmmmm....

well, seems I didn't look close enough at the wiki entry so I must amend the above to:

*Instant messaging* in Google Talk uses an open protocol, XMPP, (like other Jabber servers do) so that users of various clients

with XMPP can communicate.

but the wiki does say:

VoIP in Google Talk is based around the Jingle protocol.

And, while I don't know how he pulled it off, my friend was playing 'call himself' using Gizmo and Google Talk on XP. Since Gizmo's what he uses for SIP calls, I retract my 'cant' and toss in a 'if you know how, you can, at least through the servers'.

I still strongly doubt that google talk can IP-link to a sip client. But that's an opinion, and not worth much.

Hi everybody,

1. I am new to Expree Talk. After trialed for a few days, I still could not make a sucessful PC-PC call. I can get dialing tones from the speaker connecting to the calling PC only. But no audio nor indication from the called PC. What is the simplest way to do so?

2. I have registered for a SIP account. Is it enough for me to setup a VOIP system to make PC-PC call?

3. I have connected three computers by using a router then connected to internet. What can I do to get public IP address for making PC-PC calls?

4. What should be type into the dial box for calling other PC?

5. How can I make calls from Pocket PC with Win Mobile 5.0 or later?
