I have a strange problem. I need to force Express Talk to use the settings under network options, and while the settings appear to go into the registry fine, ET apparently ignores them. I've tried several STUN servers, even a fixed IP, and so far it keeps insisting that my public IP is 2.0.0.1:5070 so there is no way for me to receive calls. Tried 4 sip providers JIC, no joy. And letting it run the default settings is the same as well.
I didn't see any command line switches to force IP or a source for same, I haven't found anything close in the faq or here, so I toss myself on the mercy of the forums. (yes, you can laugh)
I started with v2.02, v2.03 is on here now, athlon XP 2800+ 512meg 240 gig system, Lanparty NFII Ultra mb, nVidia FX5700 video card, only one NIC enabled. Not the nVidia one, the Realtek RTL8100L. No place to get confused there. RAID is not enabled. Win98SE with USP2.01.
I have a mix of Win98 and WinME machines on 1.5mbit/256kbit aDSL, with an SMC7004ABR (port restricted NAT) router [ports 5070, 3478 [stun] and 8000-8020 opened to this machine] to give all the computers 'net access, [100mbit/s full duplex forced] and dialing out is no problem, nor do I have audio problems either way...
but calls *to* me don't work, and that's annoying. More than, as what I wanted (need, really- I can't *afford* LD on disability) from VOIP was a way for a friend in california to be able to call me in oregon and know that if *anyone* answered it would be me, not the wife, etc., so I don't have to try and guess when he's likely to be around.
He signed up for a paid Gizmo account (neat psych there on the sipphone.com site, go to download Gizmo, and you get moved to a 'all gizmo' branch of the site to create a Gizmo-branded SIP account- which is also a sipphone.com account if you want to sign in there... <g>😉 with PSTN gateway services, which I thought was strange as he already has lots of telephone numbers, and pushed me into finding a Win98se compatible softphone. There aren't as many as I'd hoped, everyone seems to be going all Win2k-WinXP only on a body. Grr.
Express Talk has so far worked the best in every respect but getting calls. Although so far, the others haven't gotten past the 'attempt a call-out' point, so whether a call in would work is moot.
DynDNS.com reads my public IP right (wish I could use it as a STUN server), as does FWD's netcheck, and for that matter even the router's logging catches it correctly. I tried the uPNP enable on the router and ET, but I didn't really expect it to work as I've heard it takes WinXP. Didn't work, no more than all the settings I've tried.
In fact, I even tried tossing this machine into the router DMZ zone with all ports wide open to the WWW and it had no effect on the problem.
Any suggestions? Derision? help?
