Fade in? ... strange...

I tried to fade in some music.

I always thought that "fading in" means that the marked region is multiplied with '0' at the beginning and with '1' at the end (and depending on the fade mode linear, exponential or logarithmic values inbetween).

But with WavePad I observe strange behavior. Sometimes it seems to be even amplified?

Does WavePad take some maximum value in the marked region?

Could someone tell me how to use "fade in" as one would normally expect it to work?
