I am working with a 37-minute video speaking in Portuguese. I have loaded English subtitles, all good so far. I wanted to crop out an excerpt from approximately 16:00-22:00, making a 6-minute video. I cut the timeline at each end of the desired crop, deleted the preceeding and following footage, and saved the project file as "St Johns". But when I reopen that project, the subtitles no longer accompany the video; they revert to the beginning of the original video, at 00:00 instead of 16:00. What am I doing wrong??
Ok, I see what's happening, but I don't know what to do about it. When I deleted the first 16 minutes that preceeded my excerpt, the timeline went black in that area, showing neither video nor audio track; but the subtitles that I had loaded remained there, just as they were. I could even see them on the preview screen. So when I closed the gap & slid the excerpt to the front, it now laid over the subtitles for the beginning of the original video. I went into the list of subtitles & tried to delete them up to that point; I could delete a subtitle letter by letter, but I couldn't highlight the first 16 minutes and delete that whole chunk.
I had loaded them from a separate file. The video is in Portuguese. An IT friend ran a software which produced subtitles and translated them into English. The subtitle file was named 00013_en.srt, if that tells you anything.
How can I handle this??
Thank you!!
