DaleB I use Videopad to edit and reduce file size of clips from my critter cam. Generally I am trying to get below 25MB for Facebook chat or email. It seems lately that the estimated export file size vs actual output aren't even close. This morning I shortened a clip, changed it to medium quality, and exported the file. Estimated size was 8.9MB, actual file size was 27MB. I recently upgraded my cam to a higher resolution model, so my base files are even bigger, making reduction even more important. I don't know if I am missing something in my settings, or if the program is at fault. I am a retired senior, and have been known to do things the hard way when there is a simple solution.
borate Estimates often don't match results. In the export dialog test lower bitrates... You might get the most mileage from reducing resolution. Dropping the frame rate is worth a try. A different output format, such as AVI, may affect export size...
DaleB After editing/shortening the clip, the Video Quality/Bitrate is my next step, followed by dropping the frame rate to below 25. It is just frustrating to make setting changes and see an estimated size that is workable only to have the output 4 times the size of the estimate. And like you said, reducing the resolution works if all else fails. I'm more blowing off steam then expecting a fix.
borate Let's see this project, for analysis... Sharing solves most issues. Don't skip any one of these steps. If using Google Drive, remember to change "restricted" to "anyone ... can view."
