Text background size and new feature

I would like to ask a question related to Text Editor and then suggest a feature.

Question: When I add a background to my text, a default size of the background is created. The bigger the size of the font, the bigger the background's shape. Sometimes the default size of the text's background is too big for my liking. Is there any way to adjust it? For instance, there are cases when I would like the background size to be exactly the size of the text, without any extra margins. Is it possible?

Suggestion: When I choose the colour of the text's background, I would like to have the possibility to match the background colour of the video clip. A simple solution would be to that the cursor of the mouse changes to a colour picker as soon as it is outside the window for changing the colour. That way, I would be able to sample exactly the colour from the video.

This can be done. Set the text editor background to Editor. First, click the three-lined Menu at the top-left, then File > View and Show Dual Previews.

Compose text and place it on track three.

Create a blank clip. Choose Color. Click the picker icon. Place it on the target background in the PV window and click. As you exit click Add Color.

Drop the blank clip onto track two, directly below the text clip, then click the EFX icon and choose Crop. Set the aspect ratio to None. Crop and position the blank.

The length of both the text clip and the blank can be changed by dragging their handles.

You can file a suggestion with NCH by clicking the caret at the top-right of the window.
