How to slide back and delete mistakes

Hi,

So I'm new to wavepad. I'm more used to Audacity, although I find it hard to smooth things out like joining 2 clips together when I've deleted dead air or a bad recording, so you don't hear any hard cut and it just sounds seemless. I'm hoping wavepad does that.

I tried to use it tonight & I had a few issues:

If I press the record button on the bottom left where it has stop, record, pause and I go read from a Word doc, it stops recording. It didn't do that with the top record button and I don't understand why it did that at all.
I made a mistake of a couple of words and needed to delete those two words and rerecord them and put them where I deleted the other words and I couldn't see any bottom scrollbar to scroll back to try and find the words that were messed up. Where's the horizontal scrollbar?
I saw some green bar and moved that, and that appears to have deleted the entire recording. 😒 I didn't see any recording after that.

I think that's it for now.

A horizontal scrollbar will appear only when content doesn't fit into the window. Drag the slider at the bottom-right to change the horizontal spread.

If you make a mistake, press <ctrl-Z> to backtrack, step-by-step.

Confirm that Normal Record is selected. Click the chevron to the right of the record button...

To pause recording, hit the two-lined pause button not stop. Click it again to resume.

Ok, but how am I supposed to get back to the spot I want to listen to if there's no horizontal scrollbar like on videopad?

Also, is there a way to input the timestamp like on videopad so I can go right to the spot where I need to start deleting?

As for the mistakes, I may not know I've made the mistake until after I've recorded some more, so I need to be able to go back to where that one spot is & usually there will be content I need to keep after the mistake.

Expand the display by moving the at slider, bottom-right. The scrollbar appears. Drag the red cursor line and look at the clock to see where it's parked.

I had a similar experience when I first switched from Audacity. Some of WavePad’s controls aren’t immediately obvious, especially when it comes to navigating longer recordings and replacing small sections of audio. It took me a while to get comfortable with zooming in and moving around the timeline without accidentally changing or deleting something. Once you get used to it, though, editing becomes much smoother. By the way, when I’m taking breaks from audio work, I sometimes browse different online offers and resources just to see what’s new.

I’m more familiar with Audacity too, so I can understand how some of these things feel confusing at first. The missing horizontal scrollbar caught me off guard when I first tried WavePad as well. The recording stopping when switching to a Word document sounds like it could be related to a setting or how the recording mode works. Accidentally deleting a recording is frustrating, but hopefully it was just a view issue and not actually gone. Once you get used to the interface, WavePad seems to have quite a few useful editing features.
