If the capture-device picker is blocked, Debut is usually failing to detect a valid device or the driver is not set up correctly, not intentionally disabling recording in the trial.
What to check
- Open Options in Debut, go to the Devices tab, and make sure a Video Device is selected from the dropdown.
- If your device does not appear, reinstall or update the capture-device driver, or try a different USB port.
- Make sure no other app is already using the camera or capture device, because Debut can lose the connection when another program has it open.
- If you are recording audio too, verify that a valid sound input is selected; a missing audio device can also trigger “no device” style failures.
If the control is greyed out
If the device selector is literally disabled, that usually means Debut is not seeing a compatible capture device at all, so the fix is on the hardware/driver side rather than the trial license. Debut’s own help says that when hardware does not appear in the list, you need to install the manufacturer’s driver.
