Cutting a subtitled video wrecks timestamps

Basically, I am using a long video with subtitles that I want to cut in order to make shorts.

But the subtitles retain their timestamps and don't get cut at the same time, resulting in starting the short with the subtitles from the start of the long video.

Do I really have to edit the subtitles manually each time, or am I missing something?

Can I export just a segment of a clip without deleting parts of the long, and thus wrecking the subs?

Export with subs that are in-sync. Then import the export, where the subs will be embedded. Cut the shorts. This may not give the cleanest result but it's in-sync.

Instead. you can regenerate subs. First, HIDE subtitles in the export window...

Then import that long version that has no subs, and cut out your shorts.

Now import the shorts and use the Auto Generate feature to create new subtitles for them. It's available on the subtitle window's toolbar.

Thank you. That's the best way I could figure out by myself, but I still held hope that it might not be necessary.

One easy way around this would be to "mask" chunks of the long video and just render the part that isn't masked, but I guess that'll be in a future version (full-price, obviously). Sigh.

A section of the long project can be easily exported. Drag, to select, then right-click in the selected area and Export Selected Region.
