"In PicoPDF you can turn index entries into clickable links, but the built‑in link feature only supports URLs (web pages) or files, not “go to page/bookmark” links inside the same document, so you have to work around that limitation.
What PicoPDF’s Link tool can do
To link selected text to something, you can:
Open your PDF in PicoPDF and go to the Home tab.
Click Edit Text, then select the index text you want to make clickable.
Click the Link button; the “Set As Link” dialog opens.
Choose one of the two options:
URL: type or paste a full web address such as https://www.example.com (must include http:// or https:// or www.).
File: browse to and choose another PDF or document to open when the index item is clicked.
Click Set As Link; the text will turn blue and underlined and can be followed with Ctrl+Click.
Why “index → page in same PDF” does not work directly
PicoPDF’s documentation and tutorials describe only links to a URL or an external file and do not mention any option to jump to a specific page or bookmark within the same PDF. That means you cannot, for example, link “Chapter 3 … 27” in your index directly to page 27 of the same file using the link dialog.
Possible workarounds
If you specifically need index items to jump within the same PDF:
- Use bookmarks and the Bookmarks pane to navigate instead of an interactive index page; PicoPDF supports adding bookmarks to particular pages or positions.
- Or, edit the PDF in another PDF editor that supports internal “Go to page/bookmark” links, then reopen it in PicoPDF for other edits."
