Image adjustments keep changing

I'm using Videopad pro V17.54. When I take a still image and scale it or split screen it, the proportions distort. In scale, I can scale to the size I want locking the proportions. After I insert it into the sequence, the proportions will change and I can't get back to the original. This is particularly bad in split screen. Typically, the vertical gets crushed while the horizontal keeps the correct scale. I have tried clearing the cache before starting up, taking the image completely out of Videopad and starting over, and neither seems to work Any ideas? It's really a problem for the projects I'm working on.

Not seeing a change when an image that is scaled in the bin is dropped onto the timeline. Tested on square and 16:9 video with "keep A/R enabled."

Split-screen looks normal as well in the latest release. Experiment with the "Resizing Mode" options in the S/S dialog box...

No distortion noted, even if the images are scaled prior to using split-screen.

If you make a mistake immediately press <ctrl-Z> to go back, step-by-step. And Save Project File AS routinely, giving it a unique # or name, so as not to overwrite prior saves. Using Save Project Files (no AS) will overwrite. From the HOME tab, the AS choice is available by clicking the caret to the right of the Save Project button on the toolbar. That way you're protected, and shouldn't lose anything.

I import a photo, then make it split screen. All is well. I drop it into the sequence; still good. I run the sequence, and now the proportions have gone off. If I take the image out of the sequence and look at it in the bin, now it's distorted there as well. If I remove the split screen, it goes back to the correct ratio, but now if I try to add split screen again it immediately goes out of proportion. The sequence I'm working on has two split screens, and if I get one corrected and export the file the other one goes off.

Incidentally, I am using 17.54. I am not subscribe, just one time purchase, so I can't switch to a later version.
