PicoPDF itself does not operate a scanner; it works with PDFs that you create using a separate scan application or your scanner’s own software. Once you have scanned a document to a PDF file (for example with Windows Fax and Scan, your scanner’s bundled app, or another scan utility), you can open that scanned PDF in PicoPDF and work with it.
What you can do in PicoPDF
Once the scan is saved as a PDF and opened in PicoPDF, you can:
- Use OCR to convert the scanned image of text into editable/searchable text in the same PDF, via the OCR tool on the Home tab or Tools menu.
- Add or edit text, insert images, annotate, sign, and otherwise edit that scanned PDF like any other PDF document.
Practical workflow
- Scan paper → save as PDF using your scanner software.
- Open that PDF in PicoPDF.
- (Optional) Run OCR so the scanned text becomes editable in-place.
- Edit, annotate, sign, and save/export the PDF as needed.
