How to make a Picture-in-Picture video circular in VideoPad

Hi,

I am using VideoPad v13, and I want to create a Picture-in-Picture (PIP) effect where one video is overlaid on another.

Here is my situation: I have two separate videos: The background video (for example, slides) The overlay video (for example, my webcam recording). I want the overlay video to appear as a circle on top of the background video. I tried using Crop → CircularMask, but the effect does not crop the video. The rendered video still shows the full rectangle.

My questions: Is it possible in VideoPad to actually crop the overlay video into a circular shape? If yes, what steps should I follow to apply it so that the circle is rendered in the final video? If not, are there any workarounds or recommended methods to achieve a circular PIP in VideoPad?

Use Options | Display tab, click the Show Dual Previews box, to make this easier.

Method 1...

On track one, position and size the image insert using the Motion effect.

On the track two background, apply a Circular Mask, then the Transparency effect at zero Opacity.

Position and size the mask to match up with the insert image. Apply Feathering if desired, to soften the edge.

Method 2...

First determine that both the background image and the insert are the same resolution.
If not, either export one of the two at the other's res and aspect ratio or grab a screenshot with that setting.

Track one: Add the Motion effect to the insert image. Resize and reposition it as needed.
Add a Circular Mask. Enclircle the mask directly over the insert image.

Track two: Right-click anywhere in the track and Apply Last Video Effect.
Add a Transparency effect with Opacity set to zero.

I managed to successfully apply Circle Crop to my camera video — now I have a circular video of myself overlaid on my slides in the background.

The circle appears correctly, but I don’t know how to move it or make it smaller. I want to position it, for example, in the bottom right corner, while keeping my slides as the background. Any suggestions?

Hi! I cannot move or reposition the circular video correctly for some reason. When I try to use Motion → Position, the circle moves in the wrong way (it shifts the background instead of the masked video). I need to reposition and resize the circular video to the bottom right side. I have tried different effects - Position, Motion, Picture in picture, but the effects don’t seem to affect it properly. Additonally, on a few occasions the mask effect was not applied to the whole track, but to some portion.

Only three items are needed here: Motion effect, Circular mask and Transparency. Following method one, above...

Place the insert on track one and add a Motion effect. Use the sliders to size and position the insert. It can also be dragged in the preview window.

On the track two background, apply a Circular Mask, then the Transparency effect at zero Opacity.

Click the blue Circular Mask header in the effects window and use the sliders to move the mask circle to where the insert is located.
The mask can also be dragged in the preview window. The Radius slider controls the size. This is an example of track two. Click on it to enlarge.
