VideoPad keeps hanging, it just won't work

Hi,

I'm on Win 7.

So the last time I used VP before today was about a month+ ago. i was adding music to my slides and then everything started screwing up. I don't remember what happened, but it was a mess & I finally gave up and Xed out.

Now today more issues with VP. Everything takes forever to load, it won't play, it just hangs.

Even trying to see if there was an update took 5-10 minutes. Trying to do a save as, same thing.

I thought it was because my computer was maxed out memory wise, but I just restarted & same issue with only one Supermium profile loaded and almost nothing else.

What's going on, is the software dying on me? I've been using it for years and sure there were bugs here and there, but it's been over a month and so many issues.

I updated to hang on, I have to wait until it loads the about window. sigh

Forget it, I'm not waiting. I'll add the version if and when it finally gives it to me. It's whatever is on the site.

First thing to do when confusion arises is to close the program, relaunch it, and before loading anything, go to OPTIONS | DISK tab and Clear Unused Cache Files.

You might also clear Windows temp files. Open Explorer (the file manager) and click in the address bar. Then you should be able to type %temp%. Press <enter/return> Delete the files shown there. Or you can manually search for... C:\Users\<your PC name>\AppData\Local\Temp

Install this release. For one-time licensed users upgrades are free for up to six months from purchase date. After that, VP will continue to fully function but a fee is required in order to register the newest. Retain your old install file and registration info. If it requests money, the grace period has already been exceeded. Mention that here.

Please submit your project for analysis. Follow the steps here, one-by-one. Don't skip any. If using Google Drive for the upload, remember to change "restricted" to "anyone with link can view."

The process is easy, quick and can be done privately. Just follow these steps...

Back up --- With your project on the timeline, click on MENU at the top-left. Click FILE|BACK UP PROJECT FILES TO FOLDER. Choose a folder and SELECT FOLDER.
Zip the folder --- It will be numbered. In Windows right-click on it and Send To > Compressed (zipped) folder.
Upload --- Use a free server - Google Drive, MS OneDrive, etc.* - to upload the zipped folder. When it completes...
Get link --- Right-click the file and click SHARE. If using Google, right-click the file, click SHARE | SHARE. Change "restricted" to "anyone ... can view"
Share --- Click COPY LINK or OK | DONE. Paste that link here, or click the folder at the top-right of this forum to message it privately. It won't be shared.

* Before uploading, right-click the folder, click PROPERTIES. Look at the File Size to confirm that it's not too big for the free space on the server.

I'm doing a backup of that one video to give to you which is taking forever & the video is very slow, less than 10 mins. I'll have to wait to get to the options area. I really don't think it's this video b/c I had the issues over a month ago with the other video which I never finished b/c of all of the issues.

Temp files are cleared every time I restart my computer & do a disk cleanup, so that can't be the issue.

I already pay every 3 months, so is my version different than the one you gave me above? Does that mean I have to pay extra?

You appear to be on the subscription plan, so installing the linked version, above, should be licensed. If not, let us know. It is different than 17.51.

VP can also be reinstalled at any time, which usually clears corruption, if any. No need to uninstall first.

Ok, I figured out why the first part of the video doesn't show video, it's b/c NCH deleted the video part & left the audio part. WOW No clue.

I cleared the cache & went to replace the missing video & I can't, it still won't let me do anything.

When I DL that version above, will it wipe my settings?

Not a thing wrong spotted here. Project loaded in less than five seconds and exported in about fifteen.

Here, for a short while, is the proof. Click the download arrow to save it to the PC. Ignore any virus warning.

If issues persist after installing the newer version you might try another PC, if available. Report back on your results please.

Can you please answer my question about the settings so I can DL the newer version.

My other computer, while on Win 10, is very slow, so that's not going to work.

Are you sure NCH still works on Win 7, b/c I'll be very upset if it doesn't. I assume you are on Win 10 or 11.

Installing any release won't change settings or corrupt a project, and Win 7 shouldn't be an issue. Videopad does not delete audio, or any other tracks.

Remember to Save Project File AS routinely, giving it a unique # or name, so as not to overwrite prior saves. Using Save Project Files (no AS) will overwrite. From the HOME tab, the AS choice is available by clicking the caret to the right of the Save Project button on the toolbar. That way you're protected, and shouldn't lose anything.

The 64-bit 17.51 version of Videopad is here. (You may have the 32-bit installed.) Ignore any virus warnings. Give it a try.

MY VP doesn't open up like it shows in the Tutorials, I appears like an expanded view. Also, when I try to add text it does not appear on the video. Thoughts?

Take a screen shot, so others can see what you see. Upload it to a free server, get a link and post it here. If using Google Drive for the upload, click SHARE | SHARE and change "restricted" to "anyone with link can view."

Click the Menu (top-left) and then View | Restore Default Layout.

When text is created the clip will appear in the images bin. It may also show up on the timeline, on the track above the main video at the cursor point. If it doesn't, drag it from the bin to where you want it. Overlaid text will be superimposed onto the underlying tracks if Editor Background is chosen in the text composition window.

I think I i have the above figured out. When I want to start a new project, it opens a file box of NCH named Mark's personnel, the problem is, it doesn't allow me to go to my folders where I have the videos or objects that I want to use for the new project. How do I disable your file system or not use NCH's file system at all?

There's no "NCH file system" that would cause this. Perhaps it's loading a project that was saved earlier.

Click the Menu (top-left), then FILE | New Project, to begin anew. Or click FILE | Open project to load one that has been saved.

Use the toolbar ADD FILES icon or right-click in an open area of the bin. That will invoke Windows Explorer.
