Can a video sequence have a transparent background?

Hi everyone.

I just recently learned that I can create sequences from other sequences and that has been very helpful. But I ran into an issue with the my current video project.

The tl;dr is I'm attempting to create a split video. The left side shows video#1 and the right side shows video#2.

My plan was to create 3 sequences. Sequence#1 would have all the editing of video#1. Sequence#2 would have all the editing of video#2. Sequence#3 would overlay Sequence#1 and Sequence#2 with Sequence#3 showing the videos side by side. This is where I'm stuck.

As seen in the Screenshot of my project, in the TRACK the video shows a transparent background but in the SEQUENCE PREVIEW the background is a solid black. Is there a way to set the sequence so it has a transparent background instead of a solid black background?

Any thoughts?

Two things to check...

Sequence 3 must be on a higher track than 1 and 2.

If sequence 3 is video, not a still image, save the video that it contains as an apng file - to preserve transparency.

Good idea, but I don't want to export a sequence just to have to it as an external video for another sequence

An extra sequence isn't required. Simply overlay the .apng video. An example...

Ya, but I still need to export the sequence as a .apng file right?

During editing, use the .apng in order to retain transparency in the overlay. After that the final export can be in most any format, as with the mp4 above.
