Moving only part of an object

Is there a way to select or outline part of an object to apply other effects to it -- like making a head pop off and spin? I've only figured out that overlaying the same clip and cropping will let only the part move. I'd love it if I could use mask to select odd shapes to move around the screen. Is there a way to do this?

Perhaps you are thinking something along the lines of this rough test using a polygon mask.

Keep this in mind: To clear a mask in VideoPad, select the mask and click the "Clear Mask" icon, which is located to the right of the mask icon on the toolbar. After you clear the mask, any effects you add will apply to the entire video clip instead of just the masked region. This action resets your masking so effects are no longer restricted to a selected area and restores full-frame editing.

To have the background in place of the black cutout where the head popped off, trying placing the original graphic - in this case bars WITHOUT the girl - on track 1.

Double checking here. This is the way I figured out to do pop your head off with a video clip instead of am image:

On original video. Get the head into the starting position, Mask (inside) head and save.
Then uncheck inside for the mask, add transparency so you only see the masked head. Delete all other clips so you only have the head in the exact position. Export to video.
Open original video, which has the masked inside area of the head on Track 1. Insert Head Pop Off video onto Track 2 and motion affect.

When working with video clips and not images, if I use mask, it will not select the masked object to manipulate. But If I use crop, It will manipulate the object in the cropped area. Here are both:

Positioning or rotating within the masked area appears to work for both images and videos here, but perhaps this isn't replicating what you see.
