Debut stopped capturing the correct window all of a sudden

Contessa_Donatella

I've been using Debut for a good while, happily, on Prime, Tubi, Hulu, Para+, Peacock, etc. & now it will not give me anything but myself through my web camera!

I got it recording the screen again, but something is different about the perspective visually, like it seems like the top is too far down or as if the camera is suddenly much closer than my prior recordings.

Suggestions? Thanks!

"The issue described—where NCH Debut initially only records webcam, and later, after adjustment, the screen recording appears visually distorted (e.g., top is too far down, or perspective seems zoomed in)—is a known type of problem and is often related to the recording area selection or settings within Debut.

Likely Causes

Recording Area Selection: Debut allows users to select exactly which window or area to record. If the selection was accidentally resized, moved, or misaligned, Debut may be capturing only part of the screen or a different aspect ratio, which gives the illusion of a “closer” or “shifted” perspective.
Camera Overlay: Debut supports overlays (such as webcam feeds) on top of the recording. If camera overlay is enabled or incorrectly sized, it may cover parts of the recording or distort the view.
Preview Window Position: Debut can show a preview of either the webcam or screen recording, depending on configuration. If the preview or capture device switched to webcam by accident and was later reset to screen, some settings (such as area selection or scaling) might not revert to previous defaults.

Reset or Reselect the Recording Area

Click the "Screen" button in the Debut toolbar.
Use the selection tools below the preview to define the area to record.
To reset, select the full screen or manually redraw the selection rectangle to fit the desired portion of the screen. The pixel dimensions are displayed in Debut's selection dialog for precise adjustment.

Check Overlay and Display Settings

Verify that camera overlay is not enabled unless desired. In the Tools or Overlay section, disable or adjust as needed.
In the ‘Options’ menu (under Views), ensure you are set to "Full Screen" or "Actual Size" as appropriate, not a preview or partial window.

Disable Preview or Adjust Monitor

If using multiple monitors, ensure Debut is open on the monitor you want to record. Move the application window as needed.
Optionally, disable the preview video during capture to avoid mirror or overlay effects.

Restart and Test

After making the above adjustments, restart Debut and perform a test recording to verify the output matches expectations.

For advanced troubleshooting or if issues persist, visiting the official Debut forum or help manual is recommended, as these provide step-by-step guides and support for edge-case issues.

In summary, adjusting the screen selection and overlay settings in Debut generally resolves the perspective and camera/screen confusion issues that can develop after software or workflow changes."
