Videos Pixelate Upon Export

radicalcheetah

I have made several videos with VideoPad and now that I'm making the first one ever on a Mac, I'm having issues. The video looks fine while I watch it in VideoPad, but once I export, there are pixels during some of the transitions from clip to clip. It's so frustrating. I know nearly nothing about bitrate and frames per second but I have been trying to figure that out. I've messed with the settings as I export, watched YouTube videos, and tried .mov and .mp4 formats. I don't know why I'm still having this issue. Can anyone help? I can't be the first person to experience this.

A wide range of bitrates are available by clicking the blue link in the File Format field. Then click the caret to the right of Video Quaity/Bitrate....

The default is usually fine, but try a higher quality preset, or type in your own.

If that doesn't improve quality, drop in here again for more suggestions.

Hi Borate,

Thanks for your advice. The problem is, I already had chosen "higher quality" with the blue link. It's weird that some of the video clips are fine, but some are so pixelated on the transition. This has never happened to me before. And like I said, this doesn't happen during the project file. Only once I export it. Gah. I've included a screen shot of what the settings looked like when I was exporting.. I also did several other tries and the final product looks the same every time. I'm including the video so you can see what I mean.. the first time this happens is at :13 but it keeps happening several times. Have you seen this type of issue before? 😵‍💫

Not normal. Let's take a look at the project, which is the best way to solve the issue. It's easy, quick and can be done privately. Don't skip any of these steps...

Back up --- With your project on the timeline, click on MENU at the top-left. Click FILE|BACK UP PROJECT FILES TO FOLDER. Choose a folder and SELECT FOLDER.
Upload --- Use a free server - Google Drive, MS OneDrive, etc.* - to upload the saved, numbered FOLDER. No need to upload the individual VPJ or export file.
Get link --- Right-click the file and click SHARE. If using Google, right-click the file, click SHARE | SHARE. Change "restricted" to "anyone ... can view"
Share --- Click COPY LINK or OK | DONE. Paste that link here, or click the folder at the top-right of this forum to message it privately. It won't be shared.

If using Google Drive, don't forget to change "restricted" to "anyone with link can view."

I linked the video in the previous post. Were you able to access the link and also the screenshot? Thanks

borate

Yes, both were available. But that's not the project, which can be analyzed only by following the above steps. Give it a try.

Sorry I didn't understand at first. Here's the link for you. Thanks for your help with this. 🙂

Looks good here at default quality setting. It's mostly cuts, but when more are added they don't pixelate.

Test the H264 encoder instead of H265. You might also try switching the GPU setting to None (CPU only) under OPTIONS | ADVANCED | GPU section.

radicalcheetah

Oh my goodness! You got it to work. 🙂 🙂 I had tried H264 as well but with no luck. Maybe it was the GPU setting that helped. Thank you so much! I downloaded it.

I just wonder if this will be an issue for me going forward.. I will try the settings you suggested, and hopefully that will help!

borate

With the GPU setting at None (CPU only) you won't get the speed benefit of using the video adapter.

Much depends upon hardware, as video editing is resource intensive. For hi-def, multi-effect, larger projects a 'gaming-class' PC is often recommended.
