Start/End points

Now the red and blue brackets I could click on to set start and end points seem to have disappeared. Any idea on how I can get them back?.

Before placing the clip on the timeline, select its thumbnail in the bin (top-left). The brackets will appear and can be dragged, to trim the clip.

Click the ADD button to drop the clip onto the timeline.

I have several video clips on the timeline. do I have to remove all of them?

I tried removing my audio clip & re-adding it. The brackets were there for a few seconds then went away.

Do I have to remove all my video clips???

The red and blue SET brackets appear only in Clip preview mode, not Sequence mode...

To edit clips on the timeline (Sequence mode), use the split scissors on the cursor or the split button...
Create a split at the head and end of the desired material, then delete the unwanted clip fragments.

Or place the mouse pointer on the red cursor and drag, to create a blue selection. Right-click in that area and Delete Selected Region. This isn't always precise.

If you make a mistake, immediately press <ctrl-Z> to go back, step-by-step.

Save Project File AS routinely, giving it a unique # or name, so as not to overwrite prior saves. Using Save Project Files (no AS) will overwrite. From the HOME tab, the AS choice is available by clicking the caret to the right of the Save Project button on the toolbar. That way you're protected, and shouldn't lose anything.

I have one audio track at 4:30 minutes and 8 or nine short video clips. The project plays up to 9 minutes over blank areas. I cannot find a way to tell it to stop when the audio stops. I place the cursor at the end of the audio clip and press Set End and it tells me to position cursor on track you want to trim. As far as I can tell I AM on the track I want to trim. I guess I'll delete everything and start over. There should be an easier way to set a start point and an end point.

It looks like the program thinks there is still a video file on the timeline after I deleted everything. It seems to be an invisible video file as I cannot find it. Stating over with a new project.

To create a start point drag the timeline cursor to that location, then click the red bracket. To create an end point, click the blue bracket. This affects all tracks.

Yeah. That doesn't always work...when you have invisible files on your timeline. I just deleted all the clips from my timeline. I had to delete one video clip from the project because even after I had a completely blank timeline the video still had a green check mark signifying there was an instance on the timeline. In this case invisible.

I added my audio clip and one video clip and one image/text box. So far so good. When I tried to add a second video clip it says it was added, the clip has a green check mark but it is nowhere to be found on my timeline.

It shouldn't be this hard. This is my third project. I purchased a license after my 2nd project, thinking I could do this. Then my first licensed project goes down the toilet. I think this project is cursed. I'm going to trash it and start a new project. Hopefully I don't have to reformat my hard drive to get rid of the demons.

If there's a green checkmark on the clip in the bin, then it's actively in the project. Expand or compress the timeline with the slider at the bottom-right of the window, which should reveal it...

Also scroll the tracks up and down. They may not all be visible at one time, owing to limited space.

There should be no need to redo your work. You can submit a project for analysis by following these steps - one-by-one. Don't skip any...

The process is easy, quick and can be done privately.

Back up --- With your project on the timeline, click on MENU at the top-left. Click FILE|BACK UP PROJECT FILES TO FOLDER. Choose a folder and SELECT FOLDER.
Upload --- Use a free server - Google Drive, MS OneDrive, etc.* - to upload the saved, numbered FOLDER. No need to upload the individual VPJ or export file.
Get link --- Right-click the file and click SHARE. If using Google, right-click the file, click SHARE | SHARE. Change "restricted" to "anyone ... can view"
Share --- Click COPY LINK or OK | DONE. Paste that link here, or click the folder at the top-right of this forum to message it privately. It won't be shared.

* Before uploading, right-click the folder, click PROPERTIES. Look at the File Size to confirm that it's not too big for the free space on the server.

Yep. I expanded and contracted and looked everywhere. There was no instance of the clip on my timeline. I started a new project and was able to finish it without issue.
