When I click in between the two lines so it goes grey, and I can delete it, nothing happens, so how can I expand the box so it'll be easy to click on that little space to go grey so I can delete it?
When a clip is selected, it goes grey. To expand the timeline view use the slider and its icons at the bottom-right of the window...
And my my text image has jumped up on another line of its own when I tried to expand that box to edit it and how can I get it back down where it's supposed to be? There's a big black space where the text was and it's bigger space than the size of the text image . I am not allowed to upload a screenshot here.
Drag it with the mouse. You say "text IMAGE" which seems contradictory. Text is normally on a higher track, which will superimpose it over lower tracks.
To eliminate (black) gaps, right-click in the gap and Close Gap. Caution: If video and audio are not linked, but need to be in sync, this may de-sync those tracks.
To post a link to a screen shot upload the file (normally a .jpg) to a free server, such as Google Drive. Get a shared/public link and post it here. If using Google Drive, right-click on the uploaded file, click SHARE | SHARE and change "restricted" to "anyone with link can view."

It's a shame that I can't edit small bits...
There's no restriction on clip length. Expand the timeline, as instructed above, if necessary. To precisely place the cursor at a split junction use the clip edge buttons...

Remember to Save Project File AS routinely, giving it a unique # or name, so as not to overwrite prior saves. Using Save Project Files (no AS) will overwrite. From the HOME tab, the AS choice is available by clicking the caret to the right of the Save Project button on the toolbar. That way you're protected, and shouldn't lose anything.
