SoundTap stream cutting in and out

I was successfully using WavePad to record streaming content so that I could listen to it in my car. After recently upgrading to Win 11 I have been unable to get WavePad to accept streaming output, so I tried to use SoundTap, which I purchased 4 years ago. SoundTap does recognize the streaming output, but apparently the output cuts off and on. I have a solid internet connection with Starlink. I tried doing the recording late at night. I do not know how to find out if "background" processes are interfering with my recording. Can you help me? I have a screenshot of SoundTap cutting in and out multiple times over an 8 hour period, but do not know how to attach a file to this post.

Test this SoundTap release. Ignore any virus warnings. Because you purchased long ago, it won't be licensed. But use it as a trial to see if it has the same issue. You can always reinstall your purchased version.

Please share a streaming file for analysis. Upload the file/s to a free server, such as Google Drive or MS OneDrive, right-click the link and Share or Copy. Copy the result and paste it here or to me in a Private Message via the mail envelope in the top-right corner of this forum. When using Google Drive, click SHARE | SHARE and change "restricted" to "anyone with link can view.

I tried clicking on the "this" in your response. It did not creat a URL. Please send me a URL to the version of SoundTrap that you suggest. Did I not purchase a copy of SoundTrap that included future upgrades?

If a release is working well there's no need to upgrade. Your purchase won't expire.

I was unable to find the SoundTap files in my Programs folder. In my Programs Data folder I found an NCH folder with a folder for SoundTap, but it had no .exe file, so I do not want to overwrite my version if a new version will not fix my problem.

No need to uninstall. Just install the new release and see what it does. If no joy, reinstall your purchased copy.

When the file linked above is downloaded, it normally lands in the PC's DOWNLOADS folder.

But I was warned by the install program that I should make a copy of the original program, because the installation would overwrite the old program.

It will overwrite. But a reinstall of the original will do the same. If you don't have the purchased install file, go here. Ignore any virus warnings.

I installed the newer version of SoundTap, and it at least corrected the problem of shutting down recording with a "The auto stream stopped" notification. The new version of SoundTap still reported breaks in the stream of audio, but it automatically restarted recording when the streaming restarted. So now an ₁₂ hour recording of the book I would like to read is chopped up into 11 separate .mp3 files. Yes, I can splice them all together with my WavePad, but my WavePad program has stopped sending its output to the speakers to allow me to edit the files to get rid of unnecessary book narrator comments. I spent an hour on a TeamView call with Microsoft just getting my recently updated to Win 11 computer to even stream audio to SoundTap. With Win 10 I used to be able to record directly from the computer to WavePad, but that does not work either.

Your comments hint at a misconfiguration. Here in Windows 11 Pro Wavepad is recording YouTube video normally.

If you hear nothing from Wavepad, open Windows Volume Mixer by right-clicking the speaker icon at the right-bottom of the task bar. Be sure that the WP volume slider is at the maximum and that it's not muted...

In Wavepad confirm the input setting shows Record Steaming Audio...

When Audio Stream recording is begun if the bitrate isn't set to 48kHz, acknowledge the prompt to make it so.

Thank you. I have WavePad working as far as output to speakers now.

However, when I try to record with WavePad, the recording progresses well for an hour or so, then the recording graph goes wild with all red spikes on the graph. The recording before the red spiking sounds fine, but after the red spiking the recording plays back with extremely low volume as if the red part suppressed the audio input amplitude. I tried to paste a picture of the recording stream, but this did not work. I do not know how to attach a file to this communication.

While the SoundTap version that I downloaded has solved the problem of recording shutting off completely every time there is an "interruption" of some kind to the stream, I still end up with 11 sequential files that have to be joined. When I record the same type of stream with WavePad, it never records a cutting out of the audio stream. If it were there, I would see a flat line on the graph for the duration of the cutout. Is there a fix for the cutting out?

What is the URL source of this streaming, lengthy output?

As to your queries, you might get some answers by filing a support ticket with NCH. The WP issue may be related to low memory?

That's definitely frustrating, especially when the initial part of the recording sounds fine.
