Software not working properly

A few days ago, I purchased the latest version of VideoPad, and ever since I downloaded and started using it, the preview screens (both clip and sequence) keep flickering and glitching out, and when I try to add effects to the clips, the footage outright disappears; has anyone else experienced this? And if so, what did you do to fix it? VideoPad was working (mostly) fine before I paid for and downloaded the newest version onto the same computer.

Download this release, though it may be the same one being used now. If no change, please list your PC's specs: CPU/GPU/RAM?

To get to the bottom of the issue, the project needs to be checked out. Please share it, either privately or in this forum. Just follow these steps closely...

Back up --- With your project on the timeline, click on MENU at the top-left. Click FILE|BACK UP PROJECT FILES TO FOLDER. Choose a folder and SELECT FOLDER.
Upload --- Use a free server - Google Drive, MS OneDrive, etc.* - to upload the saved, numbered FOLDER. No need to upload the individual VPJ or export file.
Get link --- Right-click the file and click SHARE. If using Google, right-click the file, click SHARE | SHARE. Change "restricted" to "anyone ... can view"
Share --- Click COPY LINK or OK | DONE. Paste that link here, or click the folder at the top-right of this forum to message it privately. It won't be shared.

* Before uploading, right-click the folder, click PROPERTIES. Look at the File Size to confirm that it's not too big for the free space on the server.

If using Google Drive don't forget to change "restricted" to "anyone with link can view."

But how do I find out my computer's specs? Also I don’t think the project is the issue, because it happens on the software no matter what kinds of files I try to use.

In the Windows search box type MSINFO <enter>. Only CPU (processor), RAM and GPU info are needed. At the left click Components | Display to see the graphics adapter.

You tested the release linked above?

The issue may be your PC, but that's not clear. If you work with folks here, a fix is likely. Share your project, as instructed above.

Sorry this took me so long... I followed your steps, but all I can seem to find is the RAM, which is 1.00GB. Under the components section, I can't seem to find the CPU processor or GPU.

CPU processor says "Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-5257U CPU @ 2.70GHz, 2701 Mhz, 2 Cores, 4 Logical Processors", RAM says 8.00GB, and GPU/Adapter description says "Intel(R) Iris(TM) Graphics 6100". I already deleted the project file because I couldn't figure out how to get it to work, but I don't think you should need it; all that happens is that I try to drag a video file onto the timeline, then the preview window seems to glitch out; it keeps flickering, then the footage just outright disappears altogether and I just can't figure out how to fix it. I've tried resetting the program, rebooting my computer, methods people on here and reddit have suggested, but nothing is working.

Your specs should be good for non-complex/shorter projects. More RAM (32) might help. As would an external mid-range graphics card.

Video editing is resource intensive, so a gaming-class PC is recommended. A Net search will yield lots of info.

Without seeing a sample it's tough to say what's going on. If this occurs again, be sure to share.

Use Videopad's 64-bit release.
