How to change the background color

I have tried to follow the instructions to no avail. Does anyone know how to change the background color. Perhaps I am missing the point and what I am trying to do is not possible. I recorded a video the background in my living room. I would like to change that to a plain solid color or something other than my living room.

If there is high contrast between the subject and the background, then the chromakey (green screen) effect may do the job. The subject can't wear any color that's in the BG.
