Try an install of the latest. For one-time licensed users upgrades are free for up to six months from purchase date. After that, MP will continue to fully function but a fee is required in order to register the newest. Retain your old install file and registration info. If there's an issue, you can always revert.

Perhaps you saved to the wrong folder; there's an mpdp file just below that contains data. That's likely the project.

Search the PC for mpdp. Those files build the project.

As to the black and white interface, perhaps the video adapter is the cause?? Have you tested the program on another PC?

Consider asking NCH support.

That's exactly the "mpdp file" which should contains data. But now it becomes empty! Anyway, the problem is solved.

But I want to raise another issue that is about the interface presentation of the latest version.

When saving AS note at the target folder, to confirm the correct location...

The program isn't installed here at the moment, but suggest holding down <ctrl> while using the mouse scroll wheel.

Expanding the window (if it's not already full screen) may help.

And check out the Menu | VIEW options. Perhaps something there affects the number of tracks displayed.
