Audio for portion of large file missing

So I'm importing a large (34 hour, 157gb) video into a timeline - the clip after about 10.5 hours has no audio. The audio shows in the timeline, but doesn't play in the preview or when exported.

Any advice please?

V16.53 - 64 bit used.

157GB is asking a lot. This could be a memory issue. Prior to loading the project, open OPTIONS | DISK tab and Clear Unused Cache Files.

Consider converting the large video into the lowest-resolution practical for decent viewing, and use it in lieu of the original. Check out Prism.

The project might also be broken up into more manageable segments. Export each, then assemble them for the final.

Sadly it's already in the lowest practical resolution, it includes lots of small text so downgrading it isn't really an option.

How would you suggest I assemble them? This is the assembly of more manageable segments but I can't actually assemble it with any other segments?
What I'm trying to do is add 1 hour to the end, do you mean break up the 35 hours into (say) 5 hour chunks and then load all of them plus the 1 hour? Would that be easier for it for some reason?

As for memory there is plenty of space on the drive, does it need to hold the full video in RAM to work? Surely not.

Can't say with authority how VP handles memory of that magnitude; it may be maxed out.

Breaking up the project into chunks might allow full loading of each, but final assembly could encounter the same issue as you experienced.

Tests might be run, but you would need to upload the 157GB file to a server, and link it here. Few folks have access to that server capacity.

Then there's proxy editing - a common procedure. Yet it's not certain this it is applicable for your situation.

Unfortunately when broken into chunks they load fine in the editor, and the preview plays the audio - but as you suspected the finished video is still 2/3rds muted after exporting.

I feel like this rules out proxy editing as a fix since it would still end up with the video at full scale being exported.

You may just have to break up the final into individual 'volumes' to be played independently.

Adding the hour to the last chunk may prove successful.

The link above is to the NCH download repository. There's no threat there.

Try that release, and see if it makes any difference in the audio loading.

I'm sorry to be overly cautious - the URL "www.oldversiondownload.com" doesn't scream credibility.

Hurray though - this did work! Thanks a lot - chopping it up into about 30 chunks and then running it on this version did work. It took over 6 hours to load the audio into the preview - but it worked!

Glad to hear it, and somewhat surprised that VP can handle that enormous file.

There was an obscure bug in the 16.x series that may have been the audio issue culprit.

It appears to be fixed in the current 32-bit beta and may soon be available in the 64-bit release version.
