Hi, I spent hours editing a project yesterday only for all the sequences to come up completely black and unable to be interacted with. I've updated videopad, cleared the cache, and tried opening previous versions of files from the recycling bin, but they all have the same issue. here's the backup for my project. Please help me, my final is due in 4 days.

The VPJ save file was corrupted. Look for another in this path...

If not found, do a PC search for .VPJ. If you have saved routinely that should discover many VPJ files. The most recent will be your best bet.

Save Project File AS routinely, giving it a unique # or name, so as not to overwrite prior saves. Using Save Project Files (no AS) will overwrite. From the HOME tab, the AS choice is available by clicking the caret to the right of the Save Project button on the toolbar. That way you're protected, and shouldn't lose anything.

Edit: I found it once I opened the project file itself, but it didn't do anything other than refresh the project.

Apparently there's no autosave file. But a search on the PC for VPJ, should reveal at least one.

That's the file that builds the project. Double-click on it and the project should load, though it will be in the state it was when the file was written.

Always Save AS routinely, for protection.

Here is a free search tool that is more efficient than Windows search. If it doesn't find any VPJ files, then unfortunately your recourse is to rebuild the project.

Yes, if no VPJ files were found, then that's the route to take.

Consider installing this release. For one-time licensed users upgrades are free for up to six months from purchase date. After that, VP will continue to fully function but a fee is required in order to register the newest. Retain your old install file and registration info. If there's an issue, you can always revert.

After Friday's fiasco I just started over and redid my project from scratch. I've bade about 10 different unique save files for the project and everything was going great- until randomly 1 of the major clips I'm using stopped being loaded and just went black, and now it's scrambled completely unrelated footage in the timeline. i dont know what to do. every time i go to make an edit, the timeline goes black.

ok, i THINK i've figured it out, by selecting "replace clip" i can get the footage back, but im so confused as to why this messed up in the first place? i didn't move any of the clips from their original location. everything just shifted weirdly.

After saving, close Videopad. Relaunch it and under OPTIONS | ADVANCED, Clear Unused Cache Files. Then reload the project.

What version of Videopad is being used? Look at the bottom-left corner of the window. Install this one, if you haven't already.

Back up --- With your project on the timeline, click on MENU at the top-left. Click FILE|BACK UP PROJECT FILES TO FOLDER. Choose a folder and SELECT FOLDER.
Upload --- Use a free server - Google Drive, MS OneDrive, etc.* - to upload the saved, numbered FOLDER. Do NOT upload the individual VPJ or export file.
Get link --- Right-click the file and click SHARE. If using Google, right-click the file, click SHARE | SHARE. Change "restricted" to "anyone ... can view"
Share --- Click COPY LINK or OK | DONE. Paste that link here, or click the folder at the top-right of this forum to message it privately. It won't be shared.

* Before uploading, right-click the folder, click PROPERTIES. Look at the File Size to confirm that it's not too big for the free space on the server.
