Thanks, borate! This answered my question and solved my problem. Interesting, though. I used the <Shift-click> operation to select a range of clips/files and the behavior I saw in VideoPad was a little unexpected.
I clicked on the first clip/file in the range. Then I pressed the Shift button and the timeline view of my clips immediately jumped to the position of the red timeline cursor. I could scroll the timeline, but if I scrolled the cursor off the screen, the timeline jumped right back to where the cursor was so the cursor was visible on the screen. Basically, I could not scroll away from the cursor.
Now that I see how it works, it is not a problem. In fact, there are some circumstances where this behavior is helpful. In my case, I wanted to select everything to the very end of all the clips/files. So I positioned the cursor at the end of the timeline. Then I selected the clip/file where I wanted to start the selection of the range. When I pressed the Shift key, the timeline jumped to where the cursor was (which was at the very end of the timeline). Then, with the Shift key still pressed, I just clicked on the last clip in the timeline and I got the range of clips selected just like I intended.
That works for me.
Thanks again.
