Can not upgrade due to app store

I purchased VPE 4 months ago and am truing to update to a newer version16.19 but when I run the VPE setup I get a Microsoft message saying I need to get it from the app store. Why doesn't it just DL and install as usual? I did DL it from the app store but I can't resister it using my code.

Did you originally purchase from MS?

Try this link. There's no mandate to update, if things are working well. Your purchased version won't expire.

I made the purchase in May directly from NCH. I think I purchased the 30 day support as well. I understand your comment about not needing to update, but aren't maintenance or other minor fixes apparent in each updated version?

Sometimes it's just best to wait. You can always test drive the latest, then revert if desired.

Updates are free within the six-month period from purchase so, if there's an issue, another release within that time period may have solved it.

The next release should be available shortly. The link above fetches a beta, which is a test ... yet it seems to be working well.
