large 4k video source file from Osmo 4 Camera

P_Parkin

Hi there experts.

I am struggling to edit a 4k file from a camera.

When I try to add the file to the timeline as a video track only 15s of video is visible and editable.

The file has about 15 mins of video.

What am I doing wrong ?

I suspect I need to pre process the file or break it into chunks but don't know how.

What version of VP is being used? Is the full fifteen minutes available for the file in the bin (top-left) prior to adding it to the timeline?

Share your file, and someone will check it out.

Upload the file to a free server, such as Google Drive or MS OneDrive, right-click the link and Share. Copy the result and paste it here or to me in a Private Message via the mail envelope in the top-right corner of this forum. When using Google Drive, if necessary change "restricted" to "anyone with link can view.**

V11.92

All the file is available.

Just realised the file is 10+ GB

What about the file, as imported into the bin? Is it also abridged?

Test this release. Ignore any virus warnings. Even if unlicensed, it's good for a trial period. Your older version can be reinstalled.

10GB can be uploaded to a free Google Drive 15GB account, as long as all Google services, such as gMail, don't already occupy too much disk space.

Of course, the upload will take considerable time.

Thank you Borate

The version upgrade solved that problem.

I can get back to editing now 🙂

Have a great day.

Good enough. If you run into problems with these UHD files - especially if they are large - try breaking the project into sections.

Export each, then combine the exports for the final.

How do I break into sections, you mean when I record them or in post processing?

You help is appreciated.

Edit the first segment, deleting the balance, then export. Then place the clip on the timeline once again. <ctrl-Z> may do that.
Delete what you have already exported, and carry on in the same way, a section at a time.

If editing is sluggish, another approach is to use proxies, as described in the Proxy Editing FAQ at the top of this forum. The free transcoder, Handbrake, can create them. Set a low resolution for file output. A 280MB file here was reduced to just 7MB - less resource intensive.
