11.8 audio low on some clips

11.8 also has a problem of not normalizing some sound clips. Some sound clips become very low volume. I reverted to 11.73 and things were ok once more.

Is OPTIONS | EDITING tab 'normalize external' enabled or not? What happens when it's changed to the opposite of what it is now?

Enabled already, not changed at all from the previous version but the wave form shows difference. I can take some screenshots for you to see.

Changing the setting does not bring any difference.

Thanks. Turn off 'normalize external' under OPTIONS | MEDIA tab, then restart VP. Clear Unused Cache Files, restart again, and audio should be normal.

This issue was spotted earlier and is being looked into.

Also the noise reduction effect never seems to work on whatever version I tested. The background noise is just as loud as it is with or without the effect.

Did you adjust the Gate Level? Using a white noise file here, there's considerable difference between the gate extremes, which hints that it's working.

Perhaps it doesn't apply to the specific noise/file you tested??

Yes, from 40 to 0 db, no changes at all. I tried it on several videos I have.

Tested two popping sounds here, and there was a reduction in 'noise' when moving the slider from -40 to 0. Examples...

First sound in each is at -40, second at 0. And the associated waveforms...

For more control, use WavePad. Right-click the VP audio track and there may be an Edit With WavePad choice.

Make adjustments, then click the X to close and save. If there's no menu item, use WP independently, SAVE, import to VP.

I downloaded your clips to test my videopad out and no effect at all. I'll show video.

The first playback was with no effect. The second was with noise reduction at -40 db. The third run was noise reduction at -8 db. Finally I removed the noise reduction. The video didn't show the effect window where I was tweaking with the noise reduction effect. You can see the "FX" button being ON and OFF though on the clips, to show when it had noise reduction activated.

No difference at all. 🙁

As the clips had already been processed, running them through NR again, which it appears you have done, likely won't help much.

The issue has been passed on, to verify whether NR is working as intended.

VP isn't designed for extensive audio tweaking. Wavepad is.

I was using your clips' noisy portion to make the video, not the portions where the noise was reduced. Anyway, thanks for letting them know!

NR does have an effect here, as demonstrated above. Likely depends upon the type of noise. Try the more extensive Wavepad options.

Good authority has it that VP noise reduction is the same as WP Multi-band Noise Gating.
