The VPJ file tells the program what to do, and where to find source material; it's not playable. Search for an Autosave.vpj file in C:/Users/<username>/AppData/Roaming/NCH Software/VideoPad. Double-click it, and it should load your project. Don't try to load it into Videopad. If this fails, search for any VPJ on the PC and double-click on it.
While editing, Save Project File AS routinely, giving it a unique # or name, so as not to overwrite prior saves. Using Save Project Files (no AS) will overwrite. From the HOME tab, that choice is available by clicking the chevron to the right of the Save Project button on the toolbar. Saved VPJ files are your protection, in case of PC failure.
Hopefully, the crash did not wipe out your photos. Check the RECYCLE bin. And, if you have File History turned on, look in its back-up folder.
To find it, type Control Panel into Windows search. Click on File History. It will reveal whether history is active and where it's being saved.
