Distortion- Black pixelated line appears on some frames at the top and immediately dissipates

I downloaded the My Movie_trial_0.mp4. This .mp4 video (presumably exported via MM) played generally OK in VLC and the only thing noted was that around (1:50) the character in the centre lower frame as well as when the character transferred to the top right of the screen there was a degree of speckling left and right of the image............

There were also some slight colour changes with this image. This suggests that the original camera source for that character was compromised. The problem may also have originated with Zoom itself or with the PC link from that particular performer.

When loaded to VP the clip downloaded and previewed exactly in the same way. There was no exacerbation of the problem.

An H264 HQ 1280 x 720 . mp4 exported from VP 10.49 (32) played exactly like the original downloaded MM mp4. They both (MM and VP) looked pretty much the same.

Thank you for your note but you neglected to mention the large black distortions on the NCHVP version and only mentioned the small distortions on the one screen.

Could you please try to explain those large distortions that were on the Videopad copy that were not on the original.

🙂I didn't mention these as I didn't see them. Sorry!:mellow: I only downloaded your MM My Movie_trial_0.mp4. version. (The single link in your post above)

I am presuming your VP export that showed problems was made with this version. That being the case, I simply exported it as well and then checked for the same problems. As I mentioned......

In the VLC player your downloaded MM version looked OK with only the images of the one character (shown below) showing some speckling to right and left and in the corners from time to time with slight colour changes as shown here...
There were no gross distortions, similar to those shown on images in earlier posts This was the raw downloaded .mp4 clip. (No connection with VideoPad at this end)
When loaded to VP and previewed the downloaded .mp4 previewed in exactly the same way as it played in VLC. No difference was noted with the VP preview and when it played in VLC. The clips of the same character on screen showed the speckling and colour changes but no gross distortions.
The .mp4 was then exported via VP as an HQ H264 .mp4 video. This played in VLC exactly in the same way as the original MM video that was downloaded. Just some speckling of the clips produced by the same character. No large distortions....:mellow: So I am still of the opinion that the speckling originated with the Zoom program or the link used by the character in the presentation.

So, again, I couldn't reproduce any of the distortions mentioned.

At this end VP worked exactly as expected and reproduced a exact copy of the clip you uploaded.

if you go to time count 1:27, 2:34. 3:05 3:35 in the NCHVP version you will see the large distortions on each frame.

Yes, there are obvious distortions in your export. But not in ours.

Here, every video that you supplied has been exported - and showed no distortion whatsoever. V10.48 and 10.49. Nat's test confirm this.

Neither of us has been able to replicate what you see.

So, again, perhaps the issue is being caused by the way VP interacts with your computer. Test it on another PC, if possible.

What are the specs of that PC: CPU/GPU/RAM? Did you verify that the PC video driver and Direct-X are up to date?

Hi, the linked video, it's a portion that I exported using Windows 10 video editor NOT NCH VP, I did this to test my original source project video exported thru a different software and it came thru clean, leading me to believe that VP was the issue.

Furthermore, as I'm typing this, I have the Geek Squad support tech team working on my PC, reviewing and updating all drivers, video etc, to make sure the PC is not the issue. But what I'm thinking is that I put the project thru another software and it worked, so is my PC only showing issues when I export via NCH VP and not other programs.

If you test the video with the watermark, that says MOVIE MAKER, that is one that just wanted to show you , how when using a different editing software, the problem disappeared...

Without having your PC to test, it's conjecture why only your VP export has the problem. Your MM watermark clip has no issues here or with Nat.

Given endless variations in hardware, configurations, and software, what's the likelihood that a specific program will perform flawlessly for every PC user worldwide? Zilch.

Test an older VP version - one that predates significant improvements made recently. Retain licensing info and installer files.

Further testing has provided a clue to what you see. Please answer each of the following questions, which will help track down the problem...

Was the Zoom session captured to MP4 file ? Captured with VideoPad or another app? What app?

What video card (or adapter) is on your machine? To find out, right-click the Windows box at the bottom-left of the screen. Click on Device Manager. Expand the Display Adapters box by clicking on the >. What does it say?

What's the CPU and how much RAM?

Again, right-click on the Windows box. Click on System. What does it show for CPU and RAM?

Test this older version and let us know if the distortion persists.

With everything you mentioned, i tried to have the video cards updated, but the computer kept crashing. I was advised to bring it in for service. I will follow up when I get back the computer after the team finishes the updates.

Someone has a theory on why you, but not several other users, are seeing the artifacts. Your stats will prove helpful in sorting it out.

Yes it was captured on Zoom as an mp4 file, exported using video pad after editing. Microsoft I have an HP Pavilion with windows 10. Not sure what the video card is because the Geek squad agent said it kept crashing and needs to be serviced in a store. CPU 1.30GHz and Ram is 16GB.

So that was a direct ZOOM capture - from that app - without the need for another application?

Please turn off lossless, by clicking the blue Default Quality / Filesize link...

Then in the Video Quality/Bitrate field, try exporting the file at 40000 kbps and see if the artifacts remain.

Thanks @[deleted] for being persistent. I have had a similar problem with 10.49 editing a downloaded Zoom mp4 file. Things worked well with my first editing job. I then started a second editing job without changing anything on my hardware (because I was happy with the first job) and ran into similar problems.

When @[deleted] recommended using a prior version of Videopad, I used 10.36 because 10.47 also failed to work. v10.36 I did not get the distortion.

v.10.52 came out. The distortion is still there. When I export to video (which is the whole purpose of using Videopad), I have to downgrade to v10.3x in order to get a distortion free output. Just advice for anyone who has similar issues.

What are your PC's specs: CPU/GPU/RAM?

How was the ZOOM session captured initially? Was a specific app used, or Zoom itself?

Did you test the suggestions above with 10.52?

Yes, I tested the suggestion with 10,49. Generally, it was garbage in, garbage out. If the distortion was on Videopad, then it would display on the Export. ie. the export mirrored any distortion seen on the Timeline and when I played back in Videopad. I don't have a real fast computer, so I don't spend the time exporting things extraneously. It had worked well just the week before with another project. I will try the same settings on 10.52, but Videopad program displays the distortion, then I expect the distortion to be on my export.

It's news that the distortion displays in preview, and not just after export. Were there any configurable settings in the ZOOM app? If so, which did you specify?

Please upload the project or, the file, if that's all it is. Use a free server such as Google Drive or MS OneDrive. Get a shareable (public) link and post it here or to me in a private message via the envelope in the top-right corner of this forum. Ok, I will export the project and upload it shortly. I used 10.52 using the settings you recommended. Because the distortion showed in Videopad with 10.52, exporting the file showed the distortion.

I downgraded again to 10.36. The distortion was gone in Videopad and I was able to export it without distortion. Give me time to upload the project.

We don't need the export. If you see the issue when loading the file into VP, then the file itself is all that's needed.
