Play with effect settings, such as the Color adjustments suggested in the demo above. Apply an effect, juggle its settings to your taste, then try another.
When satisfied that it's the best it can be, save the result. Click the folder icon 
on the effect window toolbar. Give it a name.
Your saved effect will appear as just another icon at the bottom of the effects window, so you can apply it to subsequent projects.
