Apple Lossless->mp3 on iMac Intel Duo don't work!

I'm importing all my music as Apple Lossless using iTunes - I got myself a nice big HD on my new iMac and a Squeezebox to play it through my nice Arcam digital amp. Say goodbye to CD in my living room!

However, I also want to download select tracks to my phone - I've got a nice 1G SD card in it, so I want to batch convert some of my tracks to mp3.

I found Switch - was exactly what I wanted, but when I kicked it off on one of my folders, it downloaded a codec, but then barfed, sending me to the File Format support page. However, the support suggests that this should work, and the FAQ page doesn't help either.

So am I importing my CDs wrong or is there a problem with this working on Intel Duos?

Or am I just stupid and missing something?

Did you know that iTunes converts files as well?
