CPU vs GPU

When exporting a video, VideoPad is using 100% CPU and 0% GPU. Is there any configuration about using GPU instead of CPU?

The developers are always working on improving GPU utilization. The only user control is under OPTIONS | EDITING - Use Hardware Accelerated Video Effects. Likely doesn't affect export.

Exported a 2:30 project with eight video/audio tracks here at default mp4 720 resolution with the H264 compressor...

Videopad CPU averaged 33%, GPU 28%. with acceleration ON or OFF. Export time was close to three minutes. Version 8.45.

Video editing is resource intensive and a reasonably high-end PC is recommended.

That's a reasonable balance between the CPU and GPU. What PC specs are you using? Do those percentages apply to the caching process too?

GPU applies mainly to effects. Can't say if it's utilized for caching, but someone else may chip in.

Anyone know if v.p. uses nvenc?

When I export to h.264 the gpu usage sometimes goes up to 40% But most of the time it's not used at all.

Most of the work seems to be done by the cpu.

There may be some improvements in GPU usage in the next version. Keep an eye out. Any release can be test driven, to see if new features appeal.
