fredgolightly Hi, Years ago I was asking about proper lossless mp4 and m2ts support for export in original formats. Now I see it supports lossless export in other formats, but still I am unable to simply edit together/cut two mp4 files from a Pixel 3 phone and save/export them losslessly without re-encoding, which isnt lossless. Will true lossless support ever happen?
borate You have seen this no doubt... NCH Video Output Options - Lossless Export Settings Lossless export provides the highest quality video. It does this by re-encoding your video file only when required. Some editing functions require your video to be re-encoded on export. These include adding transitions, adding effects or exporting to a different file type than the original file. The following criteria must be met by the input/output videos for lossless export to be used: We currently support H.264 and MPEG4 encoder video sources. The output format must match the input format. Supported formats are .avi, .mkv, .mov, .mp4 The output and input must have the same dimensions, encoder profile, levels and extradata. Visual effects are not supported. Any segments of your video that include visual effects will be re-encoded. At least 10% of your sequence must meet the criteria for lossless editing. If less than 10% of the sequence meets the criteria, the entire sequence will be re-encoded during export.
fredgolightly Yes I have. However, I'm still getting a whole lot of re-encoding happening. For example, I take two 10 second clips on my pixel 3 at 1080p 30fps, drop them into VideoPad, put them on the timeline next to each other, and export as lossless - the whole clip is now transcoded. What exactly am I supposed to do to get it working losslessly?
fredgolightly It's all standard on pixel-30 it says but thinks its 29.something. Shouldn't matter though if lossless?
borate Here, a 30fps single 10' video would not export as lossless. When converted it to standard NTSC 29.97fps lossless export worked instantly.
fredgolightly So I have to manually reduce the 30fps to 29.97 (I'm in uk) for lossless to work? This can't be right
borate Tested several other 30fps files, of varying resolutions and bit rates. They succeeded as lossless exports, so other factors are apparently in play here. Someone with better insight may chip in.

Here's a sample clip from my Pixel 3 shooting 1080p 30.06fps (sorry it's in portrait only one I have to hand) https://drive.google.com/open?id=1Clid5gk6tmZuWvqwwih7ZBdcLJSejfEs I've tried joining this with itself say 3 times or editing out one second of video and I still can't get lossless export, it always transcodes despite trying every setting I can think of, uninstalling, resetting, etc. What am I doing wrong?
borate You are doing nothing wrong. I'll wager that your file - apparently using the hvc1 codec - is not supported for lossless editing. Someone may drop in here to confirm.

That's a good point. I've only turned hvc1 on recently but none of my old files work either, nor do my sisters nexus 5x mp4s which are avc I'd assume
fredgolightly Ok, so this is avc (non-hevc1). Would someone be able to have a go at either joing in together with itself 3 or so times or splitting it in half, losslessly. I just cannot get it working. https://drive.google.com/open?id=1KkSXtwHmrzeTWrBH_EG2ec_tMW7JYPAS
borate Tested here... 1. Exported the file as is 2. Chopped out a segment, deleted (ripple) 3. Chopped out two segments, deleted (ripple) All exported as lossless without a hitch, using VP 7.04
