WIN 2000

Hi,

I have a .wav file of transcription that I can't play in any Audio software program.... corrupt or missing audio codec. What do I need to install or change? I am using WIN 2000 SP4. I can play regular windows .wav files. I have tried Realplayer, Windows Media Player, WinAmp, ExpressScribe, and others. Thanks in advance! :unsure:

are you positive the audio file is not corrupt? The fact that you can't play it in media player or winamp suggests that it is corrupt, and thus you will not have any luck playing the file at all

Thanks for the reply. The .wav file in question plays in Win98SE but not in WIN2000 nor WIN XP, so I assume it isn't corrupt.

i have the same problem...

my sandisk DAP record and plays notes in wav files no-prob.

after i "drag-drop" the files into windows 2000, neither of my audio editors

plays them...

winamp says: "missing codec unable to open file"

switch says: "cannot open the file *.wav because the required ACM codec is not

installed on this PC."

when the files are taken back to the unit, it plays them.

that means the the file isnt corrupt.

what should i do? :huh:

The wave file you have could be in DVI format or dictated from a dictaphone. They have special codecs that need to be installed in order to play them. These codecs come along with the dictaphone I think. The other thing you can try is Gear Player. Normally it converts such files to the format that it can play and the output file can be played in any normal wave player.
