Using the free home version 3.36 I laid down a voice (.wav) file that spanned the :25 duration of the clips on the sequence.
While recording, the clip played and the audio meters were active.
When complete, the voice track appeared on the timeline (audio track 2, in this case; clip audio was on audio track 1).
Playback was fine - beginning to end. There was no truncation of the voice track.
Perhaps if you can be a bit more specific re how you attempted same - step-by-step - others may have a clue.
