debut stopped working

I used the free version on windows 7 using an ion video2pc capture device from vhs. It worked fine for one day. THe next day when I started debut, I kept getting windows blue screen. I removed and reinstalled it, now it will not see the capture device (it does show up in the device manager). Any clues ?

On one of my Windows 7 HP 64-bit laptops, every time I installed Debut the whole system froze up, all I could do was power off at the button. I lost count of how many times I uninstalled it with Revo and reinstalled, always with the same result. This went on for months, then one day it just worked! The only changes to my system during that time were Windows updates.

Does anyone know of any alternatives to debut that works with ion video2pc ? Sounds like Debut is very unstable at best.
