If the picture you're watching on the NBC site is good, then Debut should be fine. If I were doing it I would capture in mp4, because the quality is not much different from avi but it's not so "heavy", quicker to navigate, burn, whatever.
If you haven't got Debut already, it doesn't cost anything to try it out, and the free version which it will revert to after the trial period will still do the job - but I'm not sure if you'll be able to schedule recordings, I expect not.
